The standard dump truck has a truck chassis with a hydraulic hoist beneath a dump body that’s mounted to the frame. The semitrailer dump truck is a tractor-trailer with a much bigger hopper affixed to the trailer, but functions in the same way. For large hauls, some operations employ a truck and pup configuration, which entails a standard dump truck pulling a dump trailer (the “pup”) that’s equipped with its own hydraulic hoist for unloading.
